Coquitlam Public Library receives Covid-19 Relief Grant from Province

Press Release 2022-04-06

As part of the Province of British Columbia’s on-going Covid-19 relief efforts, libraries around the province have received one-time grants from an $8 million investment fund. This funding is in recognition of the invaluable role libraries played in supporting their communities during the pandemic. Libraries provided free, easy-to-access digital and physical collections, public computer access and internet connectivity, as well as operating as cooling centres during the 2021 heat dome.

Of this one-time funding, Coquitlam Public Library has received $97,555.35. Per the Province of British Columbia’s requirements, funding is to be used to cover costs associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, support emergency response and planning, and enhance services for greater accessibility and inclusivity.

At Coquitlam Public Library, this funding will go towards:

• Expanding programming and services for seniors;
• Updating our Emergency Preparedness Plan; and,
• Increasing our lendable tech inventory and updating and replacing work-from-home technology; and,
• Developing new and exciting programming to better serve the community.

This provincial grant is specifically for addressing costs associated with the Covid-19 pandemic such as improving emergency planning and response, and adapting existing services. It cannot be used for operational or staffing costs, and therefore will not affect any previously reported staffing announcements.

Coquitlam Public Library gratefully acknowledges the financial support of the Province of British Columbia through the Ministry of Municipal Affairs. We are dedicated to continuing to provide Coquitlam residents with inclusive, innovative spaces and services that promote learning and knowledge throughout Coquitlam.
