Summer Reading Clubs, grab bags and book lists

BC-SRC-Logo-2020

Summer reading season has arrived and Coquitlam Public Library had reading clubs for all ages – the BC Summer Reading Club for kids from birth to grade 5, the Middle Schoolers Only Summer Reading Club for students finishing grades 5 to 8 and the Adult & Teen Summer Reading Club. This year, all three clubs are fully accessible online.

For the younger set, Explore your Universe is the theme of the BC Summer Reading Club. Kids can track their reading progress online at https://bcsrc.ca/ or pick up a traditional reading record at City Centre branch, Poirier branch or the Library Link. Completion of 7 weeks of reading earns the participant a medal at the end of summer and a chance to win 1 of 2 grand prize Sphero robots.

For the Middle Schooler and Adult & Teen Summer Reading Clubs, participants choose books in any genre, language and format. After finishing a book, they submit a review through the Library’s online portal. Each review counts as an entry into grand prize draws for gift cards and gift baskets filled with items purchased from local businesses. Registration is not required.

Not sure what to read? The Library can help. In Coquitlam Public Library’s newly enhanced and interactive catalogue, readers can now rate books and movies, read and write reviews and create personal book lists. They can also browse book lists on a variety of themes and topics or share personal book lists with friends and people around the world. Additionally, Library Staff have created book lists with summer readers in mind. Readers can also create book shelves to flag items of interest, update reading progress and keep track of finished books.

For those who are on the go and looking for a quick and easy way to borrow books within a genre or interest area, the Library has pre-selected grab bags. Enjoy grab bags for adults, children and teens or in large print. Each bag includes at least 5 different books or movies chosen by Library staff. Place a hold ahead of time or drop in to a branch to pick out an available bag.
