Our Story

Did you know the Mobile Library has had 56,000+ visits since service began in 2009?

In May 2014 our first book bus was destroyed by fire. No one was injured, but the loss was a huge blow to us and our ability to meet the needs of the community. Metro Ford Port Coquitlam graciously provided a van as a temporary replacement for our colourful Book Bus.

We were able to buy a second-hand book mobile from Sno-Isle Libraries in Washington thanks to our sponsors: Wesbild, Industrial Alliance, Friends of the Coquitlam Public Library, Rotary of Coquitlam and our community members.

Now in 2023, we’re getting ready to introduce you to our third book mobile. The latest Library Link will allow us to spend longer at our neighbourhood stops and community events. This new vehicle features improved staff facilities, a wheelchair/stroller lift, modernized air-conditioning and heating for any wild weather, better tech support with quieter and stronger generators that provide independent power for our systems and Wi-Fi, and of course more space inside for a larger selection of books, magazines, DVDs, and family technology. Look for our big introduction later this year, and until then, you can see our current Library Link at its regular stops.

Coquitlam Public Library is grateful to the City for approving this important support to our ability to serve the community, in particular, to the City’s fleet staff for their expertise and future management of the vehicle, which will free up our staff to do what they do best – serve our customers.
